Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate appeals conviction over Lagos Chieftaincy law

The Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate has lodged an appeal against a previous court ruling that found him guilty of unlawfully portraying himself as a titled chief in Lagos. The appeal challenges the constitutionality of certain provisions within the Obas and Chiefs of Lagos State Law, citing violations of constitutional rights. The Eze Ndigbo is seeking a full acquittal and discharge from the conviction. Despite being acquitted of terrorism charges, he was sentenced to one year in prison for the offense of unlawfully presenting himself as a chief. Having already served more than a year in custody, he was released following the ruling. The appeal argues that the defendant’s actions were within his constitutional rights of freedom of association and expression and questions the legality of his conviction under the Lagos State Chiefs Law. The appellant contends that the prosecution failed to prove any wrongdoing and challenges the basis of his conviction under specific sections of the law.
