The presumed presidential candidate for the Labour Party in the upcoming 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has expressed his profound sadness at the passing of Dr. Doyin Okupe, the former Director-General of his presidential campaign. Dr. Okupe, aged 72, was regarded by Obi as a man who had a vision for a better Nigeria.
In a statement released on Friday, Obi conveyed his deep sorrow over the loss of Dr. Okupe, describing him as a dear elder brother. He emphasized that Dr. Okupe’s demise is not just a personal loss but a loss felt by the entire nation.
Obi called upon members of the Obidient Movement and the general public to pray for Dr. Okupe’s soul and to offer support to his grieving family during this challenging period.
Expressing his hope for eternal rest for Dr. Okupe, Obi asked for strength for the family and all who mourn the passing of the esteemed politician.
Dr. Doyin Okupe, a former medical practitioner turned politician, played a significant role in Nigeria’s political arena. He had previously held positions as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and later as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Dr. Okupe reportedly passed away in Lagos early on Friday after a period of illness. The Chairman of Ikenne Local Government, Jamiu Ashimi, confirmed the sad news, expressing his condolences.
Additionally, a close associate of Dr. Okupe, Chief Michael Adesanya, the Asojuoba of Isara Remo, also confirmed the passing of the esteemed politician, stating that he had breathed his last in Lagos.
Dr. Okupe hailed from Iperu-Remo in Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State.
