The National Agency for Foods Drugs Administration and Control recently disposed of counterfeit pharmaceutical and other products valued at around N100 billion at Moniya dump sites in Ibadan, Oyo State. The agency’s Director General, along with other officials, oversaw the destruction of items such as Analgin and controlled substances like Tramadol 225mg. The agency’s commitment to ensuring the safety and effectiveness of food, drugs, cosmetics, and other products for human consumption was highlighted during the event.
Products deemed illicit, expired, or banned were seized during raids at various markets across the country. The discovery of such items in major markets like Idumota, Onitsha, Ariara, and Ezeuku was emphasized. The agency acknowledged the support received from security personnel, including the Military, Police, and Department of State Services, to carry out these operations effectively.
The destruction of these harmful products, removed from unauthorized outlets, amounted to an estimated N100 billion. Several suspects were apprehended during the enforcement activities, with ongoing investigations to identify and penalize those responsible. Selling drugs in open markets was reiterated as illegal and punishable under the law, emphasizing the importance of adhering to regulations to ensure public safety.
