In several states including Ondo, Benue, Nasarawa, and Edo, residents have faced deadly attacks by suspected armed herders, leading to protests and outrage. A total of 30 people were reported killed in these attacks, prompting communities to call for urgent government action. Incidents such as the abduction of surveyors in Ondo and the killing of villagers in Benue have fueled tensions.
In Ondo, women protested in Akure following the abduction of surveyors and killings in Akure North Local Government Area. Similar violent clashes occurred in Benue, where the killing of state security operatives led to protests and the burning of official buildings. The government condemned the killings and urged security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Meanwhile, in Nasarawa State, communal clashes resulted in casualties, including a pregnant woman. The conflict spiraled out of control, leading to property destruction and loss of life. Security patrols have been increased to prevent further violence.
In Edo, residents of Dantata Life Camp were attacked by armed herders, resulting in abductions and injuries. Local vigilantes managed to apprehend some kidnappers. The introduction of an Army formation in Ekiti State aims to enhance security and curb criminal activities in the region.
Efforts are being made to restore peace and security in the affected areas, with a focus on collaboration between communities and security forces to prevent further violence and ensure the safety of residents.
