The N15.6 trillion Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project has been described by the Presidency as a forward-thinking initiative with significant economic benefits. The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications shared this view during an interview on Television Continental.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo criticized the project in his recent book, labeling it as wasteful and corrupt. He also questioned the allocation of N21 billion for Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s new official residence during times of economic challenges.
Despite the criticism, the presidential aide defended the coastal highway project, emphasizing its potential to boost the country’s economy and become a top infrastructure development. Comparisons were drawn to the successful Lekki-Epe corridor project initiated by President Bola Tinubu, which resulted in significant real estate growth and the establishment of key industrial zones. The aide expressed confidence that the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway would similarly drive progress and development once completed.
