NYSC mum as corper alleges threat to life for criticising Tinubu

The National Youth Service Corps has not responded to allegations made by a corper from Lagos, Ushie Uguamaye, who claimed she was being threatened for criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s government. In a video posted on TikTok, Uguamaye expressed frustration over Nigeria’s economic challenges, criticized the President, and highlighted poor living conditions in Lagos.

Following the viral video, Uguamaye stated she was being pressured by NYSC officials to remove the video. She refused to delete it, insisting she had the right to express her views. Despite being asked to report to the NYSC office, she maintained her stance on freedom of speech.

The NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations did not respond to requests for comments. Uguamaye’s actions have garnered mixed reactions, with some individuals and groups supporting her courage. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar commended her boldness and likened her to historical female activists, calling for encouragement and support for Uguamaye.

The Social-Economic Rights and Accountability Project called on President Tinubu to intervene and stop the harassment of Uguamaye, emphasizing the right to criticize the government without fear of reprisals. While some social media users are in support of Uguamaye, others have criticized her for speaking out against the government.
