The Nigerian Communications Commission has approved Airtel Africa’s AI-driven spam alert service as a proactive measure to combat telecom fraud and safeguard subscribers from increasing spam messages and scams. The service, launched in Lagos, utilizes artificial intelligence to identify and prevent suspicious messages, addressing concerns about phishing, fraud, and unwanted messages in Nigeria’s telecom industry.
The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission commended Airtel Africa for its proactive approach in protecting subscribers and encouraged other telecom operators to follow suit. He warned that regulatory action might be necessary if operators do not take action, emphasizing the importance of self-regulation by operators.
The NCC expressed its dedication to collaborating with telecom operators to enhance consumer security and create a safer digital environment. The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy highlighted the significant role of companies like Airtel in driving digital growth and improving productivity in both rural and urban areas in Nigeria.
