Gov’s wife advocates financial literacy among residents

The commitment to providing residents with essential financial knowledge for sustainable economic growth was reiterated by the wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.

She emphasized that true empowerment involves more than just creating opportunities; it also requires guiding individuals on the path to success.

The Financial Literacy Sensitisation Programme for 2025 took place at the First Lady’s Banquet Hall, Lagos House, Ikeja, where Ibijoke addressed the attendees, highlighting the significant impact of financial education on long-term prosperity.

She stressed the importance of teaching individuals financial skills rather than just providing temporary assistance, stating, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”

The event, attended by representatives from various financial institutions and government bodies, offered practical advice on financial management, investment strategies, and business sustainability.

Mrs. Sanwo-Olu underscored that the focus was not only on distributing tools for empowerment but also on ensuring that beneficiaries could effectively utilize these resources through proper financial literacy.

“Equipping beneficiaries with financial knowledge is essential; providing tools alone is not sufficient,” she confirmed.

Discussing the broader implications of financial literacy, she emphasized how enhancing financial knowledge enables individuals to plan strategically for their future, whether by starting businesses, investing in education, or saving for unforeseen circumstances.

Encouraging beneficiaries to implement the lessons learned, seek guidance from experts, and take charge of their financial destinies, she concluded her address.
