A lawmaker from Kogi Central, who has been suspended, recently spoke out about her experiences with alleged sexual harassment by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. She claimed that her suspension was a direct result of her accusations against Akpabio and not due to any reported misconduct.
During an interview with a British television network, the lawmaker detailed how Akpabio allegedly made unwanted advances towards her, linking them to her privileges as a Senator. She expressed her belief that her suspension was an unjust way to silence her.
She emphasized that her refusal to comply with Akpabio’s demands led to her suspension and the deprivation of her rights and privileges. The lawmaker argued that the Senate’s claim of gross misconduct was a cover-up to suppress her voice.
She highlighted the double standards in the Senate, pointing out how male colleagues faced no consequences for their disruptive behavior while she was penalized for challenging her seating arrangements. The lawmaker’s plea for fairness and justice in the Senate was a central theme of her statements.
Despite facing backlash and sanctions, she continued to speak out against the alleged mistreatment she endured. Her efforts to seek international intervention and raise awareness about her situation were evident in her appearance at a United Nations forum.
