FG confirms arrest of two Interpol’s suspects in Lagos, Abuja

In recent news, two individuals have been arrested in Abuja and Lagos by the Federal Government. Both were on Interpol’s red list, as confirmed by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, during the 5th Ministerial Press Briefing in Abuja. This development signifies a change in the country’s approach to law enforcement and border security.

Emphasizing the importance of securing the nation’s borders, Tunji-Ojo stated, “A secured border is a safe nation. Show me a country that cannot secure its borders, and I will show you a nation that can never be safe.” The Minister also highlighted the improvements in border control, including the construction of new posts and the deployment of officers to manage migration.

Furthermore, the Nigerian Immigration Service now runs a command and control center that consolidates real-time security data globally. Tunji-Ojo mentioned that these arrests are a testament to the effectiveness of these efforts, citing recent apprehensions of individuals on Interpol’s red list in Abuja and at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

In conclusion, Tunji-Ojo underscored that these events mark a significant shift in Nigeria’s security operations, stating, “It shows that it is not business as usual.”
