Fisayo Osilaja, a UX researcher based in Lagos at a Nigerian payments company, shared an adventurous experience of cliff jumping during a mountain hiking trip in Australia. Despite her occasional daredevil attitude, she recalled the thrill of the jump and declared she wouldn’t try it again.
Osilaja opened up about her childhood experience of unexpectedly being enrolled in a boarding school in Nigeria, which initially made her uneasy due to cultural differences and lack of familiar infrastructure. Over time, she adjusted and discovered her passion for UX research in Nigeria.
In a conversation about her career and travels, Osilaja described UX research in a simple manner for a child to understand, emphasizing how it makes using apps easier. She also discussed her motivation to pursue a flexible lifestyle that aligns with her love for travel and creativity, which led her to a hybrid role in tech that allows her to work remotely and travel.
Sharing insights into her trips to various countries, Osilaja highlighted cultural differences based on her experiences in different places, from the friendliness of people in America to the calm nature-loving Australians and the reserved attitude in Paris. She also discussed her language adaptation while traveling and the significance of her visits to places like Buddhist temples.
Osilaja detailed her travel planning process, emphasizing the importance of balancing work and leisure, budgeting, and creating travel itineraries. She also mentioned the benefits of having multiple passports for travel convenience.
Expressing her admiration for Japan, Osilaja mentioned her desire to live there, drawn to the fashion sense and high-tech cities. She also shared her excitement about her upcoming trip to Dakar, Senegal, highlighting the essentials she packs for her travels, focusing on her laptop and charger for work purposes.
