A foundation has made a significant impact by enhancing access to clean water for more than 16,000 individuals in Borno State through its Strengthening Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Service Delivery initiative.
The initiative, known as S-WASH, was carried out in collaboration with partners to refurbish boreholes, install handwashing facilities, and offer training to promote hygiene practices and sustain water resources.
The efforts of the Coca-Cola System and Foundation are in alignment with the goals of World Water Day, which is observed annually on March 22 to advocate for water issues and highlight the challenges faced by over 2.2 billion people lacking access to safe water.
The President of the Coca-Cola Foundation emphasized that the project reflects their dedication to enhancing water security in Nigeria by expanding access to safe drinking water. He expressed gratitude for the collaboration with local partners and communities to maximize their impact.
Borno State grapples with severe water scarcity, impacting various aspects of life such as health, education, and overall well-being.
The S-WASH initiative targeted six communities, two healthcare facilities, and one public school in Borno State, as outlined by the Foundation.
An official at Gamboru Primary Healthcare Centre praised the project for providing clean water, enabling the teaching of hygiene practices, and ensuring quality care at the facility.
The Coca-Cola Foundation has contributed over $1.6 billion in grants globally since 1984 and remains steadfast in its commitment to aiding communities in need.
