Kogi unveils electricity commission, takes over regulation

The Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission has officially assumed control over the state’s electricity sector. The Special Adviser to the State Governor on Media, Ismail Isah, announced this in a statement on Sunday in Lokoja. Utilizing the amended Electricity Act 2023, the state, under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, has taken charge of its power sector, reducing dependence on previous regulatory and distribution frameworks in Nigeria. As part of this initiative, the state has established its own power distribution company, Kogi Electricity Distribution Limited (KEDL), a subsidiary of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), to manage electricity distribution in the state. This move aligns Kogi with other states like Lagos, Enugu, Niger, Kano, and more that have independently managed their electricity generation and distribution systems.
