FG begins construction of Second Niger Bridge phase 2B access road

The commencement of the construction of Phase 2B of the access road to the Second Niger Bridge by the Federal Government signifies a significant development in improving transportation infrastructure and connectivity in the South-East region.

The groundbreaking ceremony at Ogbunike along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway highlighted the importance of completing the access roads to fully realize the benefits of the Second Niger Bridge, which has already enhanced travel between the South-East and other parts of the country.

The Phase 2B construction project aims to address these challenges by delivering a 17.5km dual carriageway with seven bridges and modern infrastructure, including security cameras along its corridors. The road will span from the Umunya/Ogbunike axis to the Valley Bridge, passing through key interchanges.

The Minister of Works emphasized that payments for the project would be linked to work progress, with significant progress already made. Local community support is crucial for the successful completion of the project, which is expected to transform interstate transportation, reduce traffic congestion, and stimulate economic activities in Anambra and Delta states.

The commitment of the Federal Government to infrastructure development and economic integration was reiterated during the event. The collaboration between the government and local authorities, including Anambra State, was highlighted as crucial for the successful execution of the project.

The completion of the Second Niger Bridge and its access road is essential for regional growth and development. The contractor, CGC Nigeria Limited, has pledged to complete the project within the set timeline and in adherence to the highest quality standards.

The ceremony also included traditional prayers for the successful execution of the project, emphasizing the importance of community support and cooperation for the smooth implementation of the construction activities.
