PDP youth leaders oppose Rivers emergency rule declaration

The assembly of youth leaders representing the Peoples Democratic Party from all states and the Federal Capital Territory has strongly criticized the recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu, denouncing it as unconstitutional. They expressed concerns that this action not only violates democratic principles but also undermines the authority of a state governed by the PDP.

In a joint statement signed by the Chairman, Jamilu Kalshingi, and Secretary, Brown Odeh, the forum condemned the move as an attempt to disrupt the democratic structures established by their party. They emphasized that the imposition of such a state of emergency poses a threat to governance principles nationwide, rather than being a localized issue.

The youth leaders called on all citizens and democratic institutions to resist what they perceive as an undemocratic maneuver and protect the integrity of electoral processes. They urged members of the National Assembly to fulfill their responsibilities by advocating for the interests of all Nigerians, especially the marginalized youth in political discussions.

Additionally, the group emphasized the importance of the PDP leadership and stakeholders taking decisive steps to uphold the party’s values and principles during challenging times. They specifically highlighted the need for the immediate swearing-in of Hon. Sunday Enemchukwu Okoye as the party Secretary, following a recent court judgment, to restore confidence among party members and present a unified front in facing future challenges.
