The Senator representing Kogi Central recently criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission for not rejecting a recall petition against her, suggesting bias in the commission’s response. INEC acknowledged receiving the petition but noted that it lacked essential details like contact information of the petitioners, as required by its guidelines. The Senator’s lawyer accused INEC of partiality for not declaring the petition incompetent due to procedural flaws. The Senator emphasized that INEC should have dismissed the defective petition to maintain fairness. She also pointed out that the petition’s signatures were limited to one area in Kogi State, indicating a lack of representation from the entire district. The Senator argued that INEC’s decision to allow corrections to the petition instead of disqualifying it immediately was a violation of due process and urged the commission to uphold public trust by taking appropriate action.
