Osun 2026: APM won’t collapse structure for APC, PDP, says chairman

The leadership of the Allied People’s Movement in Osun State has said the party would be going into the upcoming governorship poll in the state with the intent to win.

The party also declared that it was not planning to withdraw from the race and collapse its structure for either the All Progressives Congress or the People’s Democratic Party before the August 8, 2026 poll.

The Osun State chairman of the party, Adewale Adebayo, while speaking with our correspondent in a phone call on Saturday, also said APM was already attracting a new breed of politicians, professionals, young technocrats, and community-rooted leaders.

“They see APM as the only party today in Osun where capacity, integrity, and ideas still matter,” Adebayo said.

He added, “So what we are witnessing now is a shift, a political reawakening. People are looking for a fresh platform, a clean departure from the old style of governance. They see APM as the only party today in Osun where capacity, integrity, and ideas still matter.”

On the insinuations that APM may eventually collapse its structure for one of the major parties fielding candidates in the coming poll, Adebayo declared that the party was not in the race to decorate the ballot.

“We are in this contest to win and to offer Osun a clean break from the political recycling that has held the state down for years.

“Those spreading rumours that APM will collapse its structure for APC or PDP are simply uncomfortable with the rising acceptance of our party. They know the old order is shaking, and they need a convenient narrative,” he said.

On the preparation for the party’s primary scheduled to hold on December 13, Adebayo said about six aspirants have so far indicated interest in contesting the governorship poll on the platform of APM.

The reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission has already given December 15, 2025, as a deadline for the submission of candidates’ names by political parties fielding candidates in the August 8, 2026, Osun governorship poll.
