The Kwara State Government has intensified efforts to strengthen human capital development in the health sector, as the Kwara State Hospitals Management Board inspected the University of Offa for a possible training partnership.
In a statement issued in Ilorin on Saturday, the board’s management said the inspection followed “a formal request by the university’s management” for collaboration in the training of students enrolled in health-related academic programmes.
The statement explained that the on-the-spot assessment was led by the Executive Secretary of the board, Dr Abdulraheem Malik, and was aimed at “assessing the institution’s suitability for collaboration in the training of students in health-related disciplines.”
According to the board, the visit “aligns with the strategic direction of the Kwara State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq,” which promotes partnerships between government health institutions and educational establishments.
It added that the AbdulRazaq administration “continues to promote partnerships between government health institutions and educational establishments to strengthen human capital development in the health sector.”
The statement noted that during the inspection, the KW-HMB team “evaluated key infrastructure and facilities required for effective training and practical exposure” for students.
Speaking during the visit, Malik was quoted as saying that “such collaborations are essential for improving the quality of healthcare education and addressing manpower needs within the state’s health system.”
He stressed that partnerships of this nature would help ensure that students receive adequate practical exposure needed to function effectively within the healthcare sector.
According to the statement, the management of the University of Offa “commended the KW-HMB for the visit” and expressed appreciation for the board’s response to its request.
It added that the university management “reaffirmed its readiness to comply with all regulatory and professional requirements to facilitate training in accredited state health facilities.”
The statement concluded that the engagement “is expected to lead to further discussions and possible formal agreements to enhance healthcare training and service delivery in Kwara State.”
