The Arewa Revival Project has called on President Bola Tinubu to “order a comprehensive review of the leadership and operations of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund”, stressing the need to protect contributors’ funds and strengthen public confidence in the nation’s social insurance system.
The call was made by the Project Coordinator of ARP, Muttaka Ibrahim, in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.
Ibrahim said Nigerian workers deserve transparency, accountability and efficiency in the management of social security schemes established for their welfare.
According to Ibrahim, safeguarding contributors’ funds is critical to sustaining trust in public institutions responsible for social protection.
“Nigerian workers and contributors to the NSITF deserve protection and reassurance that their funds are being managed in line with the law and best practices,” he said.
He noted that decisive action by the President would help reinforce the integrity of the NSITF and reaffirm confidence in Nigeria’s social insurance framework.
Ibrahim said ARP’s position was anchored on its commitment to transparency, good governance and accountability in public institutions, particularly those directly responsible for workers’ welfare.
He also called on civil society organisations, labour unions and other relevant stakeholders to support efforts aimed at ensuring that social insurance institutions operate strictly within the provisions of the law and in the interest of contributors.
The NSITF is a statutory body responsible for implementing the Employees’ Compensation Scheme, which provides compensation and support to workers who suffer injuries, disabilities or death in the course of employment.
ARP maintained that continuous oversight, adherence to due process and strong institutional governance are essential to ensuring that the fund effectively delivers on its mandate to Nigerian workers.
