Nigeria and Rwanda’s female national cricket teams will face off in a potential top-of-the-table clash at the Tafawa Balewa Square Oval on Tuesday, as the 2026 Nigeria Cricket Federation Women’s Invitational tournament, tagged the Patricia Kambarami Cup, heats up, Sports Extra reports.
After playing three matches, Rwanda top the points table with six points from three wins, while Nigeria have also won both of their games so far in the tournament.
Ahead of the game, new Female Yellow Greens coach Theophilus Ibodeme is keeping his tactical cards close to his chest.
“Our tactical secrets will unfold as we approach every game,” Ibodeme told Sports Extra.
“It’s game plan and we switch accordingly. Our plan has been working out. The last game, our intention was to play out all the overs and put at least 150 runs on the board and defend it.”
Tuesday’s clash will be their 27th meeting since 2019, as both teams seek to assert their dominance at this year’s tournament.
Rwanda have won 13 of their previous meetings, one more than the Female Yellow Greens’ 12, while one game ended in a tie.
Nigeria last won the NCF Women’s T20I in 2023, beating Rwanda by nine runs in Lagos.
After surrendering the title to Tanzania in 2024, the Female Yellow Greens are aiming to reclaim it. They began their campaign last Friday with a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Zimbabwe U-19 before outclassing Ghana on Sunday by 136 runs.
In Sunday’s victory, two debutants, Henrietta Mbam and Favour Effiong, impressed with three wickets each to the delight of coach Ibodeme.
“They are debutants but in camp, they proved themselves. They earned their positions and that speaks for itself when they had the chance to play.”
In the second game on Tuesday, tournament debutants Zimbabwe U-19 and South Africa U-19 will also face off. While South Africa have won one game at the tournament, Zimbabwe will be seeking their first victory.
