Edo Assembly gives BEDC four-month deadline over poor power supply

The Edo State House of Assembly has given the Benin Electricity Distribution Company four months to improve electricity supply in the state.

The directive was issued on Monday when the company’s management appeared before lawmakers in Benin over complaints of erratic power supply.

The Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, said residents were dissatisfied with the company’s services and urged it to take urgent steps to improve supply.

He warned that failure to address the situation could trigger protests by residents.

In response, BEDC’s Commercial Officer, Akinyele Ogunleye, attributed the poor supply to low electricity allocation from the national grid.

He said the company receives less than 300 megawatts to serve four states, adding that the supply was inadequate to meet demand.

Meanwhile, the House also confirmed Charles Onobvayo as Executive Director (Projects) of the Edo Ecological Funding and Management Commission.
