The Lagos State Government has resolved to support legislative aspirants capable of clearly articulating the agenda of the All Progressives Congress, while also approving plans to establish a state-backed airline as part of broader economic reforms.
The decisions were contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the 19th Executive and Legislative Parley, a three-day meeting convened by the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement at Eko Hotels and Suites.
The statement was signed by Afolabi Tajudeen and obtained by The .
The forum, which brought together Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, lawmakers, party leaders and senior government officials, focused on strengthening collaboration across the executive, legislative and judicial arms of government.
Among its key resolutions, the parley said, “For the Legislature, (state and national) only candidates who can coherently articulate the views and plans of the party should be endorsed.”
It also urged authorities to fast-track plans for a state airline, noting that, “The state government should expedite action on the proposed establishment of a Lagos Airline to enhance economic prosperity of the state.”
The meeting emphasised the need for stronger institutional alignment, stating that, “The three arms of government should deepen their harmonious working relationship through collaboration, cooperation, coordination, communication and consensus.”
Participants further called for structured engagement between government and party organs to ensure grassroots inclusion.
“There is a need to ensure structured engagement between the state government and party structures to bring about inclusion of grassroots participatory decision-making and shared-growth,” the communiqué read.
On governance processes, it stressed early coordination between the executive and legislature, noting, “The executive must ensure the practice of early engagement with the legislature on appropriation process (budget),” while also urging sustained dialogue on policy proposals.
It added that, “The three arms of government should promote unified direction to reduce duplication, inefficiency, and improve communication to enhance development.”
The parley also proposed institutional reforms, including regular joint meetings between state executives and lawmakers.
“There should be an institutionalised quarterly meeting of the executive, members of the National Assembly representing Lagos State and members of the Lagos State House of Assembly to review national level engagements, align priorities, performance and chart a way forward,” it added.
To strengthen political cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections, stakeholders called for closer collaboration between party structures and government, alongside increased voter mobilisation.
According to the communiqué, “The state government, party structures (state, local government areas, ward) and elected representatives should ensure intensified voter mobilisation and awareness for Continuous Voter Registration to strengthen democratic participation.”
Officials said the outcomes of the parley reflected the state’s effort to align governance, party strategy and economic planning as preparations for the next election cycle gather pace.
