Our correspondent gathered that seven people have been feared dead after a ghastly auto crash along the Malam Madori–Hadejia Road in Jigawa State on Monday night.

According to an eyewitness exclusively interviewed on Tuesday by Metro, the incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. at Kashin Dila Junction, involving a Toyota Starlet and a black Mercedes-Benz GLK.

The eyewitness revealed that the Toyota Starlet, driven by Adamu Dakido, was said to be conveying passengers from Hadejia to Malam Madori when it collided head-on with the GLK vehicle.

“The GLK was carrying the Chairman of Kafin Hausa Local Government Area and his driver, who were travelling from Gumel to Kafin Hausa at the time of the crash,” the source stated.

Another source said that the impact of the collision was fatal for most of those involved. “All six occupants of the Toyota Starlet died on the spot due to the force of the crash,” the source said.

“The driver of the Mercedes-Benz GLK also reportedly died instantly at the scene,”

It was reported that the Chairman of Kafin Hausa LGA survived but sustained varying degrees of injuries and was rushed for medical attention.

A patrol team of the Nigeria Police Force responded quickly and evacuated the injured chairman and the corpses to the General Hospital, Hadejia.

Metro made several attempts to reach the Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam by telephone for an official confirmation on Tuesday, but the calls went unanswered.

However, a source within the police command in the state confirmed that the accident indeed occurred and that investigations had commenced.

“The police have commenced investigation into the cause of the accident. Our officers were on the ground to evacuate the victims and secure the scene,” the source said.
