AIG warns Adamawa Police against unprofessional conduct

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 3 Headquarters, Yola, Akinwale Kunle Adeniran has warned officers under his command against negligence, indiscipline, and unprofessional conduct, insisting that discipline, accountability, and commitment remain the foundation of effective policing.

The AIG gave the warning on Wednesday during a lecture session with personnel in Yola, where he stressed the need for professionalism, punctuality, physical fitness, and strict adherence to human rights in the discharge of police duties.

In a statement delivered during the session, AIG Adeniran said discipline remained a core requirement for restoring public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.

“Discipline, dedication, and commitment are the bedrock of effective policing, and without these core values being taken seriously at all levels of command and operations, it will be very difficult for us to achieve meaningful results or restore the confidence of the public in the Nigeria Police Force,” he said.

Adeniran, who also cautioned that poor attitude to duty, including lateness, negligence, and absenteeism, would not be tolerated, warned that such behaviours undermine operational effectiveness and damage the image of the Force.

The Police boss further emphasised the importance of leadership responsibility and supervision, insisting that officers in supervisory positions must ensure strict monitoring and proper guidance of their subordinates.

“Supervisors must intensify monitoring, inspection, and mentoring of their subordinates in all units and formations, because leadership by example is absolutely non-negotiable in policing, and every officer in a position of authority must ensure that accountability, fairness, discipline, and professionalism are reflected in the conduct of those under their watch,” he said.

On allegations of human rights abuses, Adeniran maintained that the Nigeria Police Force would not condone any form of misconduct, stressing that officers must operate strictly within the provisions of the law and international best practices.

“There is no place within the Nigeria Police Force for unlawful detention, harassment, intimidation, extortion, or any form of abuse of citizens’ rights, and I want to make it very clear that any officer found guilty of such misconduct will not only face disciplinary action but will also be made to face the full weight of the law, because we are committed to upholding justice and professionalism,” the AIG warned.

He urged officers to prioritise their physical and mental well-being, noting that effective policing requires alertness and strength, pointing out that, “Healthy lifestyles and routine exercises are not optional but essential requirements for every police officer, because we must be physically and mentally prepared at all times to respond effectively and professionally to the ever-changing security challenges confronting our nation.”

Speaking on social media conduct, the AIG warned officers against the misuse of digital platforms, stressing that discipline must extend to online behaviour.

“Do not misuse social media platforms under any circumstance, because posting classified information, operational details, or any content capable of tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force is completely unacceptable, and I want officers to understand that discipline and responsibility must extend beyond the physical workplace into their digital engagements as well,” he said.

The directives, the police top shot, reminded align with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police aimed at strengthening professionalism, accountability, and public trust in the Force.

Similarly, the Zone 3 Public Relations Officer, SP Aminu Umar Bashir, clarified that the command remained committed to effective policing and maintaining peace across Adamawa and Taraba states.

“We remain fully dedicated to effective policing, protecting lives and property, and ensuring the sustained promotion of peace and justice across Adamawa and Taraba states through professionalism and community engagement,” he stated.
