COAS’s frontline Sallah visit will inspire soldiers — Sokoto security adviser

The Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Sokoto State Governor, Col. Ahmed Usman (retd.), has described the Eid-el-Kabir frontline visit by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, as a major morale booster for troops engaged in counter-banditry operations in the North-West.

Speaking in Sokoto on Thursday, the special adviser said the gesture by the Army leadership would inspire officers and soldiers of Operation Fansan Yamma to remain resolute in the ongoing fight against banditry and other criminal activities threatening communities in the region.

The COAS, represented by the Commander, Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Godwin Mutkut, visited troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State, where he celebrated Eid-el-Kabir with the soldiers and shared lunch with them.

Usman said the visit reflected the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the welfare and motivation of personnel serving in difficult operational environments.

“This visit by the Chief of Army Staff to troops at the frontline during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration is highly commendable and deeply encouraging to the officers and men risking their lives daily to protect our people,” he said.

He added that the presence of the Army leadership at the frontline would strengthen the troops’ fighting spirit and reassure them that their sacrifices were appreciated.

“Celebrating with the troops at their duty posts sends a strong message that the military high command values their sacrifices, commitment and patriotism. It will certainly boost their morale and operational confidence,” the retired army officer stated.

The security adviser also reaffirmed the commitment of the Sokoto State Government under Governor Ahmed Aliyu to supporting security agencies operating across the state.

According to him, the administration remains determined to collaborate with the military and other security institutions to restore lasting peace in communities affected by insecurity.

“The Sokoto State Government will continue to provide the necessary support and cooperation to security agencies to ensure the success of ongoing operations against banditry and related crimes,” he said.

He further urged residents of the state to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information that could assist ongoing military operations.

“Security is a collective responsibility. Citizens must continue to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that can help in tackling criminal elements threatening peace and stability in our communities,” he added.

Usman also prayed for the success of ongoing military operations and wished troops across various operational theatres a peaceful and successful Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
