PFN dismisses allegations connecting RCCG, Adeboye to prayer rally

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria has dismissed allegations linking a recent nationwide prayer programme to the Redeemed Christian Church of God and its General Overseer, Enoch Adeboye, describing the claims as false, misleading and baseless.

A statement released by the Fellowship’s Media Bureau, the PFN National Secretary, David Bakare, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Monday, said the prayer programme was conceived, approved and executed solely by the Fellowship.

Bakare said, “The initiative followed a meeting of the PFN National Executive Council on May 19, 2026, where members deliberated on the country’s worsening socio-economic and security challenges.

“The council subsequently directed Pentecostal Christians nationwide to observe a three-day fasting and prayer programme, culminating in gatherings across states under the supervision of PFN leadership.

“Neither Adeboye nor the RCCG played any role in initiating or directing the exercise. The church merely participated as a member of the Fellowship. The programme coincided with Pentecost Sunday, a globally observed Christian event commemorating the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

“A proposal for public processions and the use of placards was later suspended due to security concerns and the need to prevent criminal infiltration.”

He said the decision reflected the Fellowship’s commitment to public safety and peaceful conduct.

The cleric noted that the exercise successfully mobilised Christians to pray for the nation while communicating citizens’ concerns to those in authority.

Bakare, who lamented against increasing attacks and derogatory remarks against respected Christian leaders, further warned against, “The spread of false narratives and defamatory content.”

While commending RCCG for participating alongside other Pentecostal churches, the PFN National Secretary, said the church’s involvement was in line with its longstanding support for collective Christian initiatives.

He reaffirmed PFN’s commitment to national development, justice, good governance and prayers for Nigeria under the leadership of its President, Wale Oke, calling on Nigerians to reject misinformation and embrace truth in the interest of national unity and progress.

Online reports that the PFN had, in May 2026, called on the Federal Government to take immediate and decisive steps to address the rising wave of insecurity and attacks on Christians in the country.

The announcement made in a video shared via TikTok by #David Obafemi came after the completion of a three-day nationwide fasting and prayer programme held from May 22 to 24, 2026, which coincided with Global Pentecost Day.

Leaders of the PFN Lagos chapter led a rally in the city where participants marched and held placards with messages such as “Save Nigeria from Terror” and “Peace and Security Now.”

The PFN’s call came amid fresh outrage over a coordinated attack on Friday, May 15, where gunmen abducted over 40 pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
