The Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, has commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for what he described as their exceptional performance despite financial and operational challenges, following the recent rescue of 360 abductees from the Mandara Mountains in Borno State.
Online had reported that the Nigerian military, particularly troops of Operation HADIN KAI, for the successful rescue of 360 abductees from the Mandara Mountains, a notorious terrorist enclave in the southern part of the state.
Recall that Boko Haram terrorists had attacked a military base in Ngoshe, burning operational vehicles, dispersing security forces, killing an unspecified number of people, and abducting several others.
In a post on his X handle on Tuesday, Agbese said the operation carried out by troops of Operation Hadin Kai demonstrated the military’s resilience, professionalism and commitment to combating insurgency and restoring peace across the country.
The lawmaker, who represents Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency of Benue State, praised the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, for providing strategic leadership that has continued to produce positive results in military operations.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria have continued to demonstrate exceptional courage and professionalism under very difficult circumstances. Despite financial limitations and operational challenges, our troops have remained focused on protecting the nation and defending innocent citizens,” Agbese said.
He described the rescue mission as one of the most significant military operations in recent times.
“The recent rescue of 360 abductees from the Mandara Mountains is one of the most significant operations recorded in recent times. It speaks volumes about the dedication of our military personnel and the effectiveness of the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign,” he added.
According to him, the successful operation underscores the determination of security forces to confront insurgents and protect vulnerable communities despite the complex security challenges facing the country.
Agbese noted that troops operating in difficult terrains, particularly in the North-East, deserve greater support and appreciation from Nigerians for their sacrifices and commitment to national security.
He attributed recent military successes to improved intelligence gathering, enhanced collaboration among security agencies and the dedication of personnel on the frontlines.
The lawmaker also commended President Bola Tinubu for sustaining support for the military and providing the necessary political backing for security operations.
He said the progress being recorded against insurgent and criminal groups reflects the combined efforts of the Federal Government, military leadership and security agencies.
Agbese reserved special praise for the Chief of Defence Staff, describing him as a disciplined and result-oriented leader.
“General Oluyede has shown remarkable leadership at a critical period in our nation’s security journey. The results being recorded across various theatres of operation are a testament to his commitment, professionalism and dedication to national service,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to continue supporting the Armed Forces through cooperation and information sharing, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility.
Agbese expressed optimism that improved funding and sustained collaboration among security agencies would further strengthen ongoing operations against insurgents, bandits and other criminal elements.
He added that the rescue of the abductees should inspire hope among affected communities and reassure citizens that security forces remain committed to protecting Nigerians and securing the country.
