FG lights up two Edo communities with hybrid mini-grid

The government recently inaugurated two hybrid mini-grids in Oloyan and Sule camp communities in Edo State. These mini-grids, with a combined capacity of 200kw, were set up by the Rural Electrification Agency. Oloyan community now has access to 100kw of electricity after 21 years, while Sule camp community also received 100kw after 30 years. The agency’s Managing Director emphasized that these projects are part of the Federal Government’s efforts to provide sustainable energy access to rural areas through the Rural Electrification Fund.

The agency highlighted the importance of addressing energy poverty in rural communities to spur development. By considering the economic activities in these regions, especially agriculture, the agency aims to drive true sustainable development. With the commissioning of these mini-grids, the total number in the state has now reached three, with a previous one inaugurated in Adebayo community.

To ensure the sustainability of the project, a committee comprising community members has been established to oversee and safeguard the mini-grids. The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to uplifting neglected rural areas and aligns with the agenda to focus on communities lacking basic amenities like electricity. The Edo State Governor lauded the agency for its dedication to providing lasting energy solutions to communities within the state.
