The Lagos State Taskforce recently conducted a cleanup operation along the Mile 2 Oke area on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway. The initiative aimed to clear out illegal shanties, roadside vendors, and confiscate 2000 liters of petroleum products. According to the Agency’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Abdulraheem Gbadeyanka, the exercise was necessary to address the challenges posed by unauthorized activities and the proliferation of shanties in the vicinity.
Gbadeyanka emphasized that the illegal roadside activities in the area had led to severe traffic congestion, increased incidents of traffic-related crimes, and environmental degradation. The swift action taken by the Agency aligns with the Chairman’s plans to safeguard the environment in line with the state government’s agenda.
During the operation, it was discovered that roadside vendors were unlawfully selling petroleum products from their makeshift tents on the roadside. The suspects involved in these activities will face legal charges, and the confiscated items will be duly handled. The Agency seized over 2000 liters of petroleum products, highlighting the dangers associated with such illegal practices, including fire hazards and explosions. Measures will be taken to halt these activities that jeopardize the safety of both the vendors and other road users.
