The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress expressed its disagreement with the manner in which a N1 billion donation was made by individuals to the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Lagos. The party viewed the donation critically as it occurred during a time when Osun State was facing financial challenges.
The statement issued by the chairman of the party, Mr. Tajudeen Lawal, highlighted concerns about the propriety of such a substantial donation when there were pressing financial obligations within the state. Lawal emphasized that while supporting religious organizations is commendable, it should be done responsibly and with transparency.
Lawal also raised questions about the origin of the funds used for the donation, suggesting that it may have been sourced from the limited resources of Osun State. He criticized the public display of wealth by the governor and his family, especially considering unresolved issues such as the minimum wage for government workers in the state.
In response, the governor’s spokesman clarified that the N1 billion donation was made by Dr. Deji Adeleke and was not connected to the state government. He refuted claims that Governor Adeleke personally made the donation and accused the opposition party of spreading false information.
The spokesman highlighted Dr. Adeleke’s past contributions to both the state and federal governments during times of crisis, emphasizing that the donation to the church was a personal gesture. He dismissed the allegations made by the APC, asserting that the donation did not involve state funds or government officials.
Overall, the controversy surrounding the N1 billion donation to the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Lagos has sparked debate and criticism, with political parties engaging in a war of words over the source and purpose of the donation.
