Bandits fighting against neglect — Gumi

An Islamic cleric based in Kaduna State, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has refuted claims that politicians are funding the unrest in the northern region of the country.

There has been a surge in insecurity, especially in the North-West region, with incidents of violence resulting in casualties, including the recent killing of the monarch of Gobir in Sokoto State by bandits and criminals.

In a recent interview, Gumi dismissed the accusations linking politicians to the unrest, stating that the situation is a consequence of long-term neglect and lack of education among certain communities.

He emphasized that the desire for education and a better future is what is driving these communities to take action, rather than any external influence.

Gumi also highlighted a positive initiative where schools were built for herdsmen and their families, resulting in a significant number of them enrolling their children to break the cycle of illiteracy.
