Campaign funds: LP asks EFCC to probe Obi, Yesufu, Afenifere

The Labour Party’s National Working Committee, headed by Julius Abure, has called for an investigation by the National Security Adviser and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission into allegations of financial misconduct involving Aisha Yesufu, Pastor Itua Ighodalo, Peter Obi, and leaders of Afenifere related to the misappropriation of funds from the 2023 presidential campaign. The LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, made this call during a press conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Arabambi expressed concerns over recent statements made by Yesufu defending herself against accusations of involvement in the mismanagement of campaign funds. The party has accused Yesufu, Pastor Ighodalo, and others of mismanaging and diverting significant amounts of money meant for the Labour Party’s campaign.

Arabambi dismissed Yesufu’s denials as an attempt to conceal financial misconduct and criticized her for insulting the party’s leadership. He also alleged that Yesufu and her associates, under the influence of Obi, were involved in defrauding the party.

Arabambi further implicated leaders of Afenifere, accusing them of retaining funds in private accounts linked to the organization and claimed that these individuals were part of a scheme orchestrated by Obi to divert campaign funds.

He emphasized the party’s dedication to transparency and accountability, calling for a thorough investigation into all accounts associated with the alleged financial misconduct, including those of Adebanjo, Osuntokun, and Ebiseni.

Dr. Yunisa Tanko of the Obedient Movement refuted the allegations, stating that no funds were missing from the Labour Party’s accounts. Oba Oladipo Olaitan, Deputy Leader of Afenifere, mentioned being unaware of the allegations but expressed willingness to respond if necessary.
