Several state chairmen of the ruling party gathered in Abuja for a meeting of the National Executive Committee only to find the party secretariat nearly empty. They mentioned plans for separate meetings with party leaders and the Federal Government to address the current challenges following the subsidy removal. The absence of the National Chairman and other committee members was notable.
The party had postponed its National Caucus and National Executive Committee meetings without providing a reason, but assured a new date would be announced later. Speculations arose that the postponement was due to the unavailability of President Bola Tinubu. Despite this, the state chairmen visited the secretariat to update the press on party matters.
The Cross River State APC chairman clarified their visit was to communicate their stance on crucial party issues and debunked notions of the party being insensitive to the public’s challenges. They expressed intentions to hold closed-door discussions with party leadership and Tinubu on the pressing matters affecting the nation.
The National Deputy Organising Secretary defended the state chairmen, noting that some were already in Abuja before the postponement news broke. The Forum of APC State Chairmen extended condolences to the family of a deceased party chairman and addressed recent unfortunate events affecting the nation. The Lagos APC chairman commended the NWC for extending the tenure of the Rivers State caretaker committee.
