Edo poll: APC signs peace accord as PDP boycotts exercise

The Edo State Chapter of a political party did not participate in a peace accord event held in Benin, despite other parties, including the All Progressives Congress, taking part. The Peace Accord was organized by the National Peace Accord Committee led by former military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

The APC initially expressed reluctance due to unresolved security concerns but eventually signed the Peace Accord. In contrast, the PDP maintained its decision not to sign, citing perceived bias by the police against their party. Governor Godwin Obaseki highlighted police partiality and arrests of PDP members as reasons for their refusal.

During the signing ceremony, the APC signed the agreement, while the PDP, represented by its State Chairman and governorship candidate, declined. The PDP’s stance was based on their allegations of police bias, with the party expressing concerns over unequal treatment of its members compared to APC affiliates.

General Abubakar acknowledged the PDP’s grievances but suggested that they could still sign the peace accord in Abuja. The event highlighted the ongoing tensions and suspicions surrounding the upcoming elections in Edo State.
