In Gummi town, Zamfara State, a tragic boat accident has left 41 individuals feared dead. The incident occurred as 53 farmers were en route to their farms when the boat capsized, claiming the lives of 41 passengers. Despite efforts to rescue the victims, only 12 individuals, including the boat’s captain, were saved from the water. The Sole Administrator of Gummi Local Government Area confirmed the accident, attributing it to overloading as the captain had warned passengers to reduce their numbers, but they refused. The Emir of Gummi, Justice Lawal Hassan (rtd), expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, describing the incident as truly tragic and offering prayers for the departed souls and their grieving loved ones.
