Reps vow to probe naval officer’s detention

The House of Representatives Committee on Navy has announced their intention to investigate the prolonged detention of Abbas Haruna, who has been held for nearly six years. The committee, led by Chairman Yusuf Gagdi, expressed their commitment to ensuring that those responsible for the unlawful detention face appropriate consequences.

The case involves Abbas Haruna being reportedly detained on orders from Brigadier General MS Adamu. According to the statement, the committee aims to uncover the truth behind the situation and uphold the rights of individuals under the country’s laws.

The incident, as shared by Haruna’s wife on a Human Rights Television program, highlighted the harsh conditions under which he has been held without a fair trial. The committee is determined to address the mistreatment and hold any accountable parties responsible for violating Haruna’s rights.
