The Governor of Osun State recently announced plans to reform the state’s Amotekun Corps in order to strengthen the connection between local communities and federal security services. During a meeting with the Ife Development Board, the governor emphasized the importance of upgrading the ancient city of Ife, starting with projects like the Lagere flyover and road dualisation towards the palace. He highlighted the significance of enhancing the city’s infrastructure to attract global visitors and elevate its status in the international community.
The governor, accompanied by his Deputy, emphasized Ife’s cultural and historical importance as the hub of Yoruba heritage worldwide. He expressed gratitude to the Ooni of Ife and community leaders for their support in ongoing development projects. The governor also underscored the economic benefits of the Lagere flyover in facilitating business interactions from various regions.
Additionally, the governor addressed security concerns by announcing plans to integrate local vigilantes and forest hunters with the Amotekun service and other security agencies to enhance security in both urban and rural areas of Osun State. He also mentioned the upcoming establishment of an agricultural processing zone supported by the AFDB in Ile Ife to boost the agricultural sector.
Members of the Ife Development Board commended the governor for his developmental efforts in Osun State and specifically in Ile Ife. They presented requests regarding road expansions, security improvements, and agricultural development to further advance the region.
