The media office representing a former Governor of Kogi State has expressed concern about the attempts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest the ex-governor. The office’s Director of Media stated that EFCC operatives were present at the Kogi Government Lodge in Asokoro, allegedly trying to forcibly arrest the former governor and confiscating equipment belonging to a Channels Television crew.
Despite being declared wanted by the commission, the former governor voluntarily presented himself at the EFCC office accompanied by his successor. However, the EFCC operatives at the Kogi Government Lodge did not interrogate him but instructed him to leave.
The statement from the ex-governor’s media team criticized the EFCC’s actions, labeling the attack as unnecessary since the former governor had already surrendered himself for questioning earlier at the EFCC office. The media team warned that the EFCC should be held accountable if any harm befalls the ex-governor due to the incident.
The media team condemned the EFCC’s actions, emphasizing that the former governor had cooperated by presenting himself for interrogation at the EFCC’s office earlier. The team criticized the EFCC’s approach, insinuating that the incident reflects a lack of focus on combating corruption and instead appears to be politically motivated.
Efforts to obtain a response from the EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, were unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.
