Security operatives were observed strictly enforcing the no-movement directive issued by the Inspector General of Police as the Edo State governorship election began. A combined team of the Nigeria Police and Nigerian Army could be seen patrolling major streets in Benin. They were seen turning back some vehicles on Ekhewan Road and scrutinizing those occupied by journalists before allowing them to proceed. Certain areas like the Ringroad axis, Sakponba Road, and Ihama Road were blocked, especially around polling locations. Residents walking to their polling units were stopped by security personnel for verification. A resident named Adesuwa mentioned that the heightened security measures were necessary to prevent potential troublemakers from causing chaos.
