A religious leader in Osun State, Mr. Niyi Peter, was granted bail of N1 million by a Chief Magistrate Court in Osogbo for allegedly defaming a gospel artist known as Bunmi Akinnaanu on social media. The clergyman faced three charges, including posting a picture of the artist with derogatory comments. The court proceedings detailed the accusations against Peter, stating that he damaged the character of Bunmi Akinnaanu by labeling her a prostitute on social media and threatening her. The charges were in violation of Sections 373, 88, 249(D) of the Criminal Code of Osun State. Peter pleaded not guilty, and his lawyer requested bail, which was granted at N1 million with two civil servant sureties. The case was adjourned to a later date for further proceedings.
