EFCC detains ex-gov Ishaku over alleged N27bn fraud

A former governor of Taraba State, who served between 2015 and 2023, is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged N27 billion fraud.

According to a source within the EFCC, the former governor will face arraignment on 15 charges related to the misappropriation of funds during his time in office.

The charges, dated September 27, list the former governor and a former Permanent Secretary as defendants, accusing them of diverting substantial sums of money for personal use between specific dates in Abuja.

The EFCC alleges that the defendants misused funds belonging to the Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, contravening the Penal Code and committing a criminal breach of trust.

The charges detail various instances where significant amounts from the contingency fund were diverted for unauthorized purposes over different periods.
