Benue PDP crisis deepens, as Suswam advised to resign membership

The internal conflict within the Peoples Democratic Party in Benue State has intensified, with a group of party stakeholders known as G14 advising the former governor of the state, Senator Gabriel Suswam, to resign from the party if he chooses to do so. The G14, consisting of PDP elders from the 14 local government areas of the Tiv ethnic block in the state, was formed in 2015, with Senator Suswam serving as a co-chairman.

During a recent party stakeholders meeting in Makurdi, Senator Suswam announced the disbandment of the G14 group and proposed the formation of a new group called caucus members, which would have members from across the state. This decision may have been influenced by the power struggle between Senator Suswam and his successor, Samuel Ortom, over party control, which began during the ward congress.

In response to Senator Suswam’s announcement, the chairman of G14, Laha Dzever, emphasized that the group is a voluntary body within the PDP aimed at promoting unity and growth, and it cannot be unilaterally disbanded by any individual. The group reaffirmed its commitment to the party’s values and expressed its dedication to resolving internal issues peacefully, echoing the successful efforts made in the past to restore the party’s strength.

The G14 group urged all PDP members to prioritize party unity over personal interests and encouraged dialogue and reconciliation to address grievances and build a stronger party. They emphasized the importance of peaceful resolutions and unity within the PDP in Benue State to achieve success in future elections.
