Abure, Otti on collision course over LP NWC tenure

The Labour Party faced internal conflict recently as the party’s leadership warned the Governor of Abia State to focus on governance and avoid interfering with the party’s affairs. The National Chairman of LP expressed frustration at facing criticism and internal challenges. The Chairman disapproved of the Governor’s attempt to dissolve various executive councils of the party, stating that only the national leadership holds the authority to make such decisions.

The LP National Chairman emphasized that the party’s constitution must be respected, and any actions undermining the party will be met with disciplinary measures. He clarified that it is not the Governor’s role to convene certain meetings and urged members to prioritize governance over party politics.

The LP Chair disputed claims that the current leadership’s tenures had expired, highlighting ongoing legal disputes and emphasizing the need for stability within the party. The LP’s relationship with the Independent National Electoral Commission was also addressed, stressing the importance of maintaining neutrality and cooperation.

The LP’s internal struggles could potentially weaken the party’s standing, possibly opening doors for other political parties to gain ground in Abia State. A member of the House of Representatives hinted at the APC’s ambitions to challenge the LP’s position in the state in the future.
