Access Bank pays tribute to late CEO Herbert Wigwe, family

Access Bank has commemorated the late Herbert Wigwe, former CEO of Access Holdings, his wife Chizoba, and their son Chizzy, who tragically passed away in a helicopter crash in California exactly one year ago, on February 9, 2024.

In a statement posted on social media on Sunday, the bank paid tribute to their memory, acknowledging the significant impact they had on the institution and the broader community.

“Today marks one year since we experienced a profound loss. On this day, we said goodbye to Herbert, Doreen, and Chizi—three extraordinary individuals who left an enduring mark on our lives and our hearts.

“A year later, their absence is still felt, but so is the weight of their influence—a legacy that motivates us to excel, improve, and aim for greatness.

“As we look back, we uphold the values they imparted and honor their legacies by following the path they set for us. They will always remain in our hearts.”

The Wigwe family were among the six victims who lost their lives in a helicopter crash near the Mojave Desert in California on February 9, 2024. The tragic incident had a profound impact on Nigeria’s business and financial sectors, as Herbert Wigwe was widely respected as one of the nation’s most influential banking leaders.

A memorial service for the late Herbert, Chizoba, and Chizi Wigwe is currently taking place at Eko Hotel in Lagos, Nigeria.
