The African Democratic Congress on Saturday conducted its state congresses in Anambra State, electing new executive committees through consensus arrangements amid declarations of unity and party consolidation.
The congress held at the Kyrie Events Centre, Awka, saw the emergence of a new State Executive Committee through the affirmation of Chris McCool Nwosu, who emerged as substantive chairman of the party in the state.
Nwosu, a journalist, was announced the state chairman, alongside other members, who now constitute the state executive of the party, and were sworn in immediately.
Addressing delegates and party faithful in his acceptance speech, Nwosu said he and his team accept the responsibility with humility and with a clear understanding that it is a “call to service, not self”.
He said, “We pledge our complete loyalty and dedication to our great party, the ADC, and to its guiding ideals. We equally reaffirm our profound respect for our leader in the state across the South-East and beyond, the one and only Mr Peter Obi.
“As an exco, we extend our hands in one embrace of unity and oneness in pursuit of the enormous task before us, which is convincing Ndi Anambra that the ADC is a credible alternative.
“We must rise above differences and build a strong cohesion, a strong force and cohesive structure anchored on trust, inclusion, and shared purpose.
“Our task is clear. We must reconnect with the people, deepen our grassroots presence, and present a credible alternative rooted in accountability and service.
“The strength of our party will not be measured by works, but by our ability to earn and sustain the confidence of Ndi Anambra. Beyond our states, we shall strive to set a standard worthy of emulation, befitting a people privileged to have produced Anambra’s number one political export, the great man, Mr Peter Obi, whom we also called ‘Okwute Ndigbo’.
“As we prepare for the 2027 elections, our objective is to earn decisive victories across all levels. We will organise with diligence, mobilise with purpose, and work with unwavering focus to achieve this mandate.
“We will reach every local government, every word, and every home. I thank you once again for this honour. Together, we will build a united and formidable party that truly represents the hopes and aspirations of our people.”
The congress was supervised by the ADC State Congress Committee from Abuja, led by the Chairman, Ambassador Fidel Ayogu, with Queen Nkechi Okiyi as Secretary and Godson Okoye as a member.
The Electoral Committee Chairman, Fidel Ayogu, urged the new exco members to carry the members along, noting that the consensus arrangements were in accordance with the party’s Constitution and in line with the Electoral Act.
A chieftain of the party, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, urged the new executive to carry all members along to ensure fairness and equity.
Several party leaders were present at the event. With the new executive in place, party leaders expressed confidence that the ADC would consolidate its structure and strengthen its electoral prospects in the 2027 elections.
About 54 officials, comprising state, zonal, local government and wards executives, were elected into the state exco.
