A call has been made by the Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Afenifere, urging President Bola Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, who is currently detained. Afenifere emphasized that Kanu is a political detainee and his continued detention is unjustifiable, urging prompt action from the President.
This call was made in a communiqué signed by the deputy leader of Afenifere, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, following a meeting held at the residence of its leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo.
The communiqué highlighted concerns about Kanu’s legal proceedings and stressed the need for his release in the interest of justice and national reconciliation.
Additionally, Afenifere announced the appointment of Barr Dele Farotimi as its new National Organizing Secretary and expressed discontent with the state of insecurity, calling for decisive measures to protect lives and property.
The group reiterated its demand for restructuring, citing the recent alarm about bandits’ activities and emphasizing the need for the institutionalization of state police for effective security in Nigeria.
