A recent initiative by the Africa Nature Investors Foundation has benefitted 1,500 women in agribusiness and provided training to an additional 3,000 individuals from Toungo Local Government Area in Adamawa State.
During a training session in Yola, the Country Manager of ANI, Mr. Nadia Geoffrey, emphasized the importance of empowering women in communities surrounding national parks to combat poaching activities. The focus is on creating alternative sources of income for community members to ensure the protection of parks.
Geoffrey explained that the collaboration with park communities aims to turn the parks into hubs of development, benefiting the local population through various interventions, including support for agriculture and livestock sectors.
Furthermore, the foundation has established a long-term agreement with the Federal Government to manage several parks across different states, with ongoing efforts to support beneficiaries in agribusiness sectors.
In parallel, Nuru Nigeria, in partnership with ANI, is working towards building resilience in women during crises, particularly focusing on climate change adaptation and improving nutrition for sustainable development.
The interventions include providing high-quality seedlings and financial assistance to women to kickstart their agribusiness ventures, aligning with the recent government’s emphasis on food security.
The overall goal is to empower communities, stimulate innovative solutions, and enhance participants’ problem-solving capabilities, leading to sustainable development and empowerment.
