The Governor of Akwa Ibom has expressed the state’s commitment to ensuring the successful hosting of the first-ever Niger Delta Sports Festival. This was highlighted during a visit by a delegation from the Niger Delta Development Commission to Uyo, led by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
The governor emphasized the importance of sports in uniting the Niger Delta states and their people. He expressed gratitude for selecting Akwa Ibom as the venue for the sports festival and pledged to establish a team to collaborate with the NDDC for a fruitful event.
The NDDC Managing Director underscored the commission’s goal of promoting unity and showcasing the sports talent within the region. Uyo was chosen as the venue for the festival due to its serene environment and adequate infrastructure.
The sports festival is scheduled to take place from April 1 to 8, coinciding with the commission’s 25th anniversary. The event will feature 20 sporting disciplines and is expected to attract athletes, sports enthusiasts, and stakeholders from the nine Niger Delta states to Uyo for a week of sports activities.
