Aiyedatiwa’s N73,000 minimum wage desperate attempt to curry favour – PDP

The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has expressed discontent with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s announcement of a N73,000 minimum wage for state civil servants. The opposition party criticized the timing of the wage increase, labeling it as a political move to sway votes rather than a genuine concern for workers’ welfare.

According to a statement from the PDP Campaign Organisation, the wage increment was described as a shallow attempt to mask the failures of Aiyedatiwa’s administration in addressing key issues such as poverty, unemployment, and essential services decay. The party accused the governor of insincerity and desperation in trying to win over voters through token gestures.

In response, the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Strategic Communications refuted the allegations, emphasizing that the minimum wage increase was in line with the law and a commendable addition. The governor’s aide highlighted the ongoing efforts to adjust salaries across different levels and criticized the PDP for spreading misinformation and resorting to propaganda.

The PDP’s statement concluded by questioning the governor’s commitment to sustainable development and accusing him of using the wage increase as a political tool for selfish gain. The governor’s camp defended the decision, stating that employee welfare has been a priority, with salaries being paid promptly and pensioners being taken care of.
