In a recent development, the Rivers State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Martin Amaewhule, has declared the establishment of the Rivers State Investment Promotion Agency by Governor Siminalayi Fubara as illegal. The House, aligned with Minister Nyesom Wike, stated that all appointments made by the governor for this agency are not recognized by law.
During a session at the Assembly’s official quarters in Port Harcourt, the House emphasized that there is no legal basis for the creation of the agency as no communication regarding this matter was presented to the house. The Speaker’s media aide, Martins Wachukwu, issued a statement to this effect.
The House’s stance was reinforced by the Chairman of the House Committee on Commerce and Industry, Gerald Oforji, who presented a report questioning the legitimacy of the Board’s inauguration. The committee highlighted the importance of having a legal framework to establish such an agency to enhance business growth in the State.
Members of the House expressed concerns over the Governor’s actions, criticizing the appointment of individuals to an agency that lacks legislative backing. Speaker Martin Amaewhule strongly condemned the Governor’s disregard for established laws and the Nigerian Constitution, indicating that such actions will not go unaddressed.
